This week's gospel reading is an apocalyptic one (a text speaking about the end of the world). We hear this text in light of the painful news stories from around the world, particularly the stories of the terrorist attacks in Paris, Beirut, and Baghdad. In this reading, we don't hear Jesus calling on us to run and hide in fear of that day, but to look upon that future with hope and anticipation. And, in the mean time, we are to boldly and faithfully continue doing God's work in the world.
As we explore the story of the Widow's gift, along side Jesus' critique of those for whom faith is just a show, we learn about what place giving holds in the life of faith for a follower of Christ.
